Epping ForestPark Rules

This beautiful park is for reflection and enjoyment for the whole community.

All visitors are welcome but please abide by the few regulations, laid down in order to protect the park's natural beauty and in respect for those who are laid to rest here.

  • Keep to the paths and do not stray or walk over marked burial sites.
  • Do not pick the wildflowers.
  • Keep children supervised at all times.
  • No skateboards, roller blades, bicycles or any motorised vehicle to enter the woodland, except for gaining access to the car park.
  • Please take your litter home with you. We request that any flowers brought for placing on graves are removed from their wrapping, enabling us to maintain the natural woodland.
  • Please keep dogs on short leads and clear up any mess they may make.
  • No plants to be planted, or structures placed on or around the graves without permission.
  • No smoking in the park.
  • No picnics or barbeques.
  • Cars parked at owners' risk. The management is unable to take responsibility for cars and their contents.

Thank you - we hope your visit to Epping Forest Burial Park brings you peace and enjoyment.

Cut Flowers Policy

  • Cut flowers may be left lying on plots without any wrappings or ribbons. Where possible we ask that families consider bringing small bunches or posies of subtle colours.
  • Other than one untreated wooden vase, no containers are to be placed in the woodland (e.g. ceramic vases, baskets, wooden bowls, plant pots, jam jars, bottles etc.). These present a potential health and safety hazard and compromise the overall look of the woodland. A selection of wooden vases is available in the office for families to purchase.
  • Epping Forest Burial Park staff will remove flowers as they deteriorate either through weather conditions or grazing by wildlife, e.g. rabbits, squirrels, slugs and snails.
  • Funeral tributes are always accepted and left on the plot until they deteriorate for the same reasons as above.
  • You are welcome to bring Christmas wreaths made of natural products, e.g. holly and ivy. These will be left on the plot until the twelfth night and then removed by Epping Forest Burial Park staff.

Planting Policy

  • In order to maintain a natural landscape at Epping Forest Burial Park, no planting is permitted in the woodland. As we reintroduce traditional woodland management techniques, the ground flora will be encouraged to spread and gradually colonise the burial areas. In order to favour the natural woodland flowers, we also ask visitors to refrain from placing potted plants, bulbs etc. on plots.
  • To safeguard the appearance of the woodland, we are unable to permit cuddly toys, ornaments, photographs or any other non-biodegradable items to be left on graves.
