Green Flag logoChiltern Woodland Burial Park has today been recognised as one of the country’s best green spaces with a prestigious Green Flag Award.

Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the best parks in the country and the woodland cemetery stood out after impressing the judges with its excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standard of safety and security.

The judges used eight criteria to assess the burial park; a welcoming place; healthy safe and secure; clean and well maintained; sustainability; conservation and heritage; community involvement; marketing; and management.

Fran Hall, Manager of Chiltern Woodland Burial Park, said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded a Green Flag for 2010 – 2011, and I am immensely proud of my staff whose hard work and commitment has made this possible.

“We are having a special flagpole made from locally sourced timber, and the Mayor of Beaconsfield, Councillor Janet Simmonds, will be raising the flag for the first time during our ‘Working Woodland’ weekend on Saturday 14th August, where various woodland activities will be on show for the public. High level tree felling, horse-logging, woodcarving and den-building are among the many free attractions, and having our Green Flag flying as visitors arrive will be a real accolade.”

Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.

Paul Todd, Manager, Green Flag Award Scheme, said:

“It’s a remarkable achievement that so many parks have successfully reached Green Flag Award status this year. The staff running the parks work very hard throughout the year to ensure their facilities are maintained to a high standard and enjoyed by the entire community.
